A conflict of interest is also sometimes called a "duality of interest."
A conflict of interest, or or duality of interest, helps hold Board members accountable to being impartial and loyal to the nonprofit organization they are serving. Conflicts can arise from a variety of relations: personal, professional or volunteer positions, for example.
This policy is based on the IRS model Conflict of Interest policy, which is an attachment to Form 1023. It also includes information needed to allow your organization to assess director independence in order to answer questions on Form 990.
